James G. Brumfield Elementary School is a K-5 facility located in Warrenton, Virginia. Warrenton offers a pastoral setting in Fauquier County, which is about 60 miles from our nation's capital. Brumfield's school site was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Arrington. The building has six grade level pods with five classrooms each, several resource rooms, an office suite, a media center, a cafeteria, and gymnasium.
Our school was named in honor of Mr. James Gilbert Brumfield. Mr. Brumfield came to Fauquier County as the pastor of Marshall United Methodist Church and later became an educator in the school division. When he retired in 1991, Mr. Brumfield was the deputy superintendent of Fauquier County Public Schools.
In November of 1991, Mr. Brumfield was elected to the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors and served as the Center District member until his death. He served as Chairman of the Board in 1994 and 1995.
Mrs. Magyar served as the principal at Brumfield until August 31, 2003. Dr. Rosanne Williamson was appointed principal at that time and served for three years in that role. In July 2006, Mrs. Linda Clark had the privilege of becoming Brumfield's third principal for five years until her retirement at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. Mrs. Donna Jackson took charge as acting principal for the 2011-2012 school year. Ms. Julie Gagnon took on the role of principal beginning the 2012-2013 school year until she left in 2019. Mr. Matt Yonkey was the interim principal for the 2019-2020 school year and fulfilled the role as principal from 2020-2022. Mrs. Tara Kidwell began serving as principal in 2022.
